Application deadline for the MBA Class of 2013 entering in the fall of 2011 and Notification of the MBA Admissions Board’s decision dates depend on the round you are applying in:

Round       Application deadline         Notification deadline

Round 1 Friday, October 1, 2010       Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Round 2 Tuesday, January 11, 2011    Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Round 3 Thursday, March 31, 2011     Thursday, May 5, 2011

Application submitted online by 12 noon Boston time.

According to the graduates’ feedback, the third round is the most stressful and competitive, so the earlier you’re applying, the higher are your chances in MBA admission.

Besides filling application documents, you’re going to write the admission essays (600 and 400-word limit) and answer on 2 from 4 suggested questions (in 400 words). The structure of the application is such that one does not have to write a “Why MBA? What are you Goals? Why HBS?” essays, but giving answers on these questions is expected. The first advice of HBS MBA admission consultants is to be confident during the interview and prepare carefully to the questions you’re going to be asked. Study your application and be ready to be asked about your weak sides. Personal questions about the last book you’ve read and conflicts with colleagues aren’t ruled out. Also useful will be studying information about the history and specifics of B-school, your goals, and contribution.

According to the problems that applicants had, there are some FAQs:

  • How will my application be evaluated?

Leadership potential, strong academic ability, personal qualities and characteristics are the key points, which are estimated by the Admissions Board.

  • What is the desired length of work experience you wish to see in candidates?

There is no “right” length, but full-time work experience is strongly recommended. 4 years is most frequently reported number.

  • What should I expect for my interview?

In-person or over the phone interview will last approximately 30 minutes and will be conducted by a member of the MBA Admissions Board or one of our Alumni Interviewers.

To be considered for admission, an applicant must have successfully completed the following:

  • A degree program at an accredited U.S. four-year undergraduate college/university or its equivalent;
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) from a test taken January 1, 2006, or later. The GMAT or GRE is a prerequisite for admission;
  • Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL IBT) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score from a test taken January 1, 2009, or later, is required for international applicants who attended a non-English-speaking undergraduate university;
  • Submission of a complete online application for evaluation by one of the decision round deadlines.
