Application Process in Brown University

Students come from all 50 states and more than 100 countries vying for a spot in Brown University. Applicants have 2 options for applying to the university, the Early Decision or Regular Decision. Most students choose the Regular Decision plan. Application forms are available online thus applicants are encouraged to apply and submit application forms via online.  Applicants must submit the Common Application First-Year Application and the Brown Supplement for First-Year Application on January 1 for Regular Decision and November 1 for Early Decision Plan. Students must also provide supporting documents to complement the forms of application and these includes the Standardized Test Results (SAT Reasoning Test and any 2 SAT Subject Tests or ACT), Common Application Teacher Evaluations, and Common Application Mid-Year Report.

Brown University Admission Essays and Personal Statements

Brown University uses the Common Application essay questions and the required essay from the Supplement to the Common Application First-Year Applicants. Response to the essay is about 500 words uploaded with the form. Applicants need to respond to one of the following topics: (a) Tell us about an intellectual experience, project, class, or book that has influenced or inspired you. (b) What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given and why? (c) French novelist Anatole France wrote: “An education isn’t how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It’s being able to differentiate what you do know and what you don’t.” What don’t you know? Applicants should take this as an opportunity to tell the admissions committee information about you that cannot be found on your credentials.
