Admission Deadlines

Each school has its own admission deadlines and as a rule, they are different. Usually, the submitting applications deadline is posted by the each school and this day all applicants get a notification about their acceptance or decline. Then till May 1 the students should inform the particular school about their desire to become a disposition to study at this school or not.

Many colleges and other educational institutions are trying to attract more students so they’ve decided to add few alternatives in addition to their standard admission deadlines:

  • Regular Decision – all students are submitted before a certain date and receive a decision within indicated period of time. They also have a possibility to send applications to several schools simultaneously. Application deadline – winter and students receive acceptance notification till 1st of May as usual.
  • Early decision is the best variant for students who already have some preferable school. And if the student gets an opportunity to enter this school he or she is committed to do this. The applicants have no rights to apply to any other school until the time of decision –making. If the student also wants to compare the proposed financial aid packages from different colleges he won’t be able to do this. Application deadline –autumn. The notification comes before December.
  • Early Action is carrying out in the autumn and notification comes nearly before December. This option is similar to Early Decision but doesn’t make the student enter selected school beforehand in case of acceptance.
  • Restrictive Early Action is the same type of admission option as Early Action except the schools’ limitation on early admissions to other educational institutions.
  • Rolling Admission – the schools who use this type of admission option accept application documents until the beginning of the school year or until they have free places. During the application period, the documents are taken at any time and the decision is made as quickly as possible. It’s better for a student to send his/her documents the earlier the better if he/she wants to be sure in his/her future studying. If there are no free places the competition for the available places grows.
  • Open Admission – the application deadline and notification acceptance are similar to Rolling Admission. The students are admitted according to their high school diploma or GED and previous academic successes, degrees or GPA level aren’t taken into account. The students who are entering have to pass tests in order to check the relevant level of coursework. The requirements could be stricter from school to school.

Some colleges propose application fee waivers so students don’t have to restrict their application quantity because of impossibility to pay all fees. These waivers can be discussed with the admission office.

It is necessary for students to know and understand all five levels of selectivity. They are: open, liberal, traditional, selective and highly selective. This can help in determining the chance of possible admittance.
